Pastor         Elder Garry R. Gibbs is a native of Columbia, North Carolina.  He attended Wagner College, in Staten Island, New York, where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, and minored in Accounting and Philosophy.  While attending Wagner, the “Garry Gibbs Award” was established in his honor, and is awarded each year to the school’s top academic student in the New York Higher Education Opportunity Program.  He was also named a member of the prestigious “Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities.”  Upon graduating from Wagner, he attended New York University School of Law, where he earned a Doctor of Law degree.  After completing law school he married the former Kathy Vaught (Wagner’s homecoming queen) of Staten Island, New York, and the couple moved to the Washington, D.C. area.         In 1990, Elder Gibbs and his family joined Ridgley Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Herbert J. Russell.  Elder Gibbs, taught for many years at the Charles Harrison Mason Bible College, as well as Tuesday night adult Bible Study.  He also served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the adult choir, a Director of the men’s choir, and a praise and worship leader.         Elder Gibbs accepted his call into the ministry in 2004.  Prior to accepting the call, he asked God to confirm his calling by the gift of music.  He asked God to give him thirty (30) songs by the end of the year as confirmation of his call.  That year, God gave him not thirty (30) songs, but one hundred and thirty four (134) songs.  Since accepting the call, he has written more than 3000 songs.  In July 2010, he completed his first Gospel CD “I Come To Worship.”         In 2010, Elder Gibbs received the call to launch out into deep, to begin a new journey, and founded Berean Ministries Church of God in Christ. There he co-labors in the vineyard with his lovely wife, Evangelist Kathy Gibbs, who is an anointed speaker, singer, artist, and writer. The name Berean Ministries, is taken from the example of the people of Berea found in Acts 17:10-11, whom Paul visited on his second missionary journey. “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming [thither] went into the synagogue of the Jews.  These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” The people of Berea were “noble or fair minded” in that they were willing to give the Apostles a fair hearing. They listened to the evidence presented, putting aside their pre-conceived notions. They received the word with “all readiness,” meaning they had an insatiable hunger and thirst for the Word of God.  The Greek word used “prothumos” paints the picture of a ravenously hungry man who devours the food set before him or an extremely thirsty man who is finally given something to drink.  But not only did they have a great hunger and thirst for knowledge, they “searched the Scriptures daily” to see if what they were being taught was correct.  In other words, they examined the evidence carefully making sure it was supported by the Scriptures. At Berean Ministries, we want the people of God, to understand their faith, to share their faith and to be able to defend their faith.
